Since 2003, we've sought to support those members of our church family experiencing a period of crisis or transition (i.e. bereavement or other loss, chronic illness, unemployment, and other life difficulties).
Those receiving care through Stephen Ministry meet with their Stephen Ministers for about an hour a week or every other week.
Stephen Ministers are laypersons trained to give care and comfort consisting of reflective listening and the
use of Christian resources such as prayer and the Scriptures. Stephen Ministers are trained to listen and empathize, not provide counsel or tell people what to do.
Our Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of initial training, which includes instruction in areas such as
feelings, listening, assertiveness, maintaining boundaries, and confidentially. Our Stephen Ministers also receive regular continuing education and work under the direction of a trained Stephen Ministry Leader.
